MOTIVATING GIRLS TO GET FIT IS ONE OF MY HARDEST TASKS
I hope that there are many of you reading this that will agree with me on this. But I am not one of those who believe in the Darwinian saying of the survival of the fittest. Always speaking in a positive frame of mind, I believe we should be framing our affirmations on life and the efforts required to achieve personal and career goals around the adventurous saying of, how about this then, the clash of the titans, positively speaking, of course.
Yes, I honestly believe that each in her own unique way can and should be a titan. Why lower your standards just because you might be perceived to be doing something out of the ordinary and still not expected of you. And do we need to remind you that it is a woman who is on the verge of becoming the next President of the United States of America. Whether she achieves this historic feat remains to be seen, but one thing I do believe is that she is fighting fit and raring to go into battle, particularly when you think about what, never mind who, she is up against.
The point I’m leading up to is this. It’s not solely because they are men, but one reason why they still seem to have a leading edge over women is that they are fiercely competitive. Call it their maleness if you want, but aren’t they always striving to be better than the next one. One negative observation of this is that those who don’t get their way, some of them anyway, get rather uptight and jealous. Women, again, only some of them are prone to this as well, I think.
One thing I am more concerned about, and I see this happening a lot among some of my clients, is that women are still too ready to give up without ever really trying hard enough. When I see this happening among some of my clients, one of the techniques I use is to get them to be physically active and sportingly competitive. But, boy, is this a hard task. Never mind that I am not a physical training or fitness expert myself.
I meet up with colleagues from the downtown gym sometimes. Invariably we talk shop, and some of them shake their heads in despair, telling me sometimes just how difficult it is to get some folks off of their butts. So, of course, I can relate to this. But, now I must confess one thing to you all. Perhaps I am conscious of this, but I do not want to be guilty as charged. Just remember that when I say that women give up too easily, I do not mean all women.
There are men who are prone to giving up too. But on the side of women, let’s be honest, the challenges they are faced with, surely you will agree, are quite steep and it is well understood that those who choose to do this, simply want to give up and throw in the towel. But never mind that. Always think positively. Challenges and obstacles can and should be overcome. One of the best ways to help overcome life’s challenges, no matter how hard it may seem at first, is through physical exercise.
Not just any old exercise, mind you. Try challenging yourself with something competitive every once in a while. With the right sort of protection and with the right coaching behind you, even contact sports are no longer the sole preserve of hot-blooded men.
